The litigation process can be a drawn out process and take several steps. First, it begins when the plaintiff files a complaint to the courts. Thereafter, the defendant is formally delivered a copy. The defendant has a specific amount of time to explain their side and have the option to file a counter-claim against the plaintiff. There is a period before the trial when everything is being set up for a trial. After the trial, the judgement is given.
